POLITICALLY CORRECT

James Fox

Extremely Polite

This latest example of the politics of personal destruction, exemplified by the total destruction of Sen. Lott, is just the latest in a long series of attempts to totally muzzle the American people when it comes to speaking their minds. For years now, both the advocates of political correctness and the media have been involved in attempts to keep the general public from offending anyone. These politically correct advocates have taken away our ability to freely speak our opinions, our beliefs, or even to tell an occasional ethnic joke.

Actually, it should be responsibility of the federal government to prosecute the vigilante efforts of the media and political parties for the violation of the civil liberties of citizens under the First Amendment. These organizations are punishing individuals and for speaking their minds and their views in violation of the free speech section of the First Amendment of the Constitution.

What ever is said may be repulsive and disgusting, but a citizen has every right under the Constitution to say it. Our civil rights are being slowly methodically taken away. All aspects of our privacy are being invaded in the name of security by both the government and sensitivity thought police.

It wouldn't be so unfair if the principles were applied equally to everyone; however, when brought to task for acts that hurt victims and their families both financially and emotionally, the media immediately resorts to hiding behind the First Amendment.

This whole segregation-desegregation issue would be a joke that wasn't so sad. The founders of this government and authors of this Constitution intended this great nation to be a melting pot. "E Pluribus Unum" (All into One), but prior to and after desegregation became a fact; the people of this great nation have practiced segregation in everything that they have done.

They huddled together in ethnic groups in total defiance of being assimilated into the American culture. You can only have to visit these ethnic communities to realize that these people are the ones who are being politically incorrect.

In reference to separation of church and state, the design and slogans, "In God We Trust" first appeared in 1864, and went on to appear and disappear on U.S. coins until 1955, when Congress ordered the phrase to be placed on all U.S. paper money and coinage. In 1956, Congress designated "In God We Trust" as the official U.S. national motto.

How can we possibly justify these colonies of foreigners from all over the world demanding to retain their culture, their ethnic identity and refusing to become homogenized into the American culture as dictated by the Constitution and the intentions of our founding fathers. Some might say, what American culture? My answer is: the culture that was illustrated by our doughboys in World War I, G.I. Joe in World War II, and those poor unfortunates who fought in Vietnam.

Some called them, "The Ugly American" because of their behavior and apparent lack of culture; however, no matter what ethnic nationality they were when they were in the service of the United States, they were all American GIs. They were truly assimilated. When they returned home, because of ethnicity and cultural diversity here at home, they returned to being segregated. They hardly had a choice in the matter.

In my humble opinion, there should be only 3 recognized groups in this great land: Americans, legal aliens and illegal aliens. The American group needs no adjectives to identify ethnicity. The word American says it all.
