During my 3 years as a newspaper columnist, I was given many assignments that related to our failing attempts to fill the skulls of our youth with a decent education -- an education that would qualify them to survive in our competitive society.

Thankfully, I was given a free hand to editorialize as I saw fit. It wasn't until recently, when a new liberal editor started censuring my columns, that I resigned and retired to the world of cyberspace.
